Glass Reptile Terrariums
Glass reptile terrariums or vivariums are reptile housing for pet reptiles. Herpetologists even use terrariums to house the reptiles they study. Some of the glass reptile terrariums on the market have been designed by herpetologists in Europe. You can trust that the terrarium you purchase will be what you and your pet reptile need for a healthy and comfortable enclosure.
Glass reptile terrariums are distinctive in their appearance. You will recognise right away why a terrarium is different from an aquarium when you find one. The first difference is that an aquarium is fully glass with a plastic top for access. The glass terrarium is designed with two doors in the front. It also has a mesh top for better ventilation and lighting access. Top lighting systems can be placed on the top with fluorescent or UV style lights. The doors will require a tank lock, but those are easy to find, to ensure your reptile will not be able to escape. The front door style offers better access for feeding and cleaning the enclosure.
The bottom of the terrarium is raised to allow a heat mat to fit underneath. It will help keep your reptile warm, without making the substrate too hot to walk on. Your reptile will require the right heating, so you may also need a different style like the heat lamp for basking in conjunction with the heat mat or cables.
For storage purposes you can purchase cabinets that go with the glass reptile terrariums. These cabinets have doors for storage of your reptile care items. They are also going to set the cage at eye or waist level to make it easier for you to work with the terrarium and see your pet. The cabinets come in wood and other constructions.
Glass reptile terrariums have plastic or metal framing to help keep the glass together. There is also a safe adhesive used to keep the glass in place and the glass water tight. You can have a semi aquatic animal inside the terrariums if you wish due to the level of the doors. The doors are raised to allow for an inch or so at the bottom of the tank for the substrate or water if that is the case.
The size of glass reptile terrariums will vary. For height you should expect 12 to 24 inches, width- 12 to 36 inches, and depth- 12 to 18 inches. Depending on the type of pet reptile you may require a larger width than height or vice versa. Arboreal reptiles like some snakes, frogs, and lizards require a taller tank so they can climb fake trees and plants, while desert dwellers spend their time on the ground floor or burrowing.
The size of the glass reptile terrarium will determine the cost. Most glass vivariums and Glass terrariums are between £30 and £200. Glass reptile terrariums are more expensive than plastic, but they are sturdier and often larger in size. If budget is a concern you could elect for this cheaper option, but glass will last a long time.
