Glass Reptile Starter Kits

Purchasing your first pet reptile can be an exhilarating experience, but you may also feel a little trepidation. You probably have numerous questions such as the right heating elements, lighting, food, housing, etc. Glass reptile starter kits can make some of these questions recede into the back of your mind and make it easier to get started on your pet reptile housing.

Glass reptile starter kits are designed to have the elements you need to begin a reptile vivarium. There are a few different types of starter kits on the market such as the Desert or Rainforest Exo Terra glass reptile starter kits. These kits come with the natural background, substrate, and accessories one needs to create their reptile’s natural home.

The glass vivarium on its own is going to have glass on all sides, with a mesh top. The mesh top allows for more ventilation and places to stick in accessories like heat rocks and lighting. The bottom of the tank is raised a little for those who want to use a heat mat underneath. The front is where the glass doors can be found. These doors sit high on the tank to allow for easy access and a place for the substrate to be laid. If the doors went all the way to the bottom it would be easier for the substrate to fall out.

Within the starter kit you not only get the glass vivarium, you also get decoration items, a real looking rock background, a compact top lighting system, a reptile care guide, suitable substrate, a water dish, and things like jungle vines that look real and jungle plants that again look quite real. For a desert starter kit you can expect the vines and plants to be replaced with a rock and hide for the reptile.

The glass reptile starter kits come in two different sizes. You have a small kit that is best for snakes, frogs, lizards, and geckos like the Anolis Carolinensis or Anolis Sagrei. They require less space, thus the vivarium will be one of the small glass structures on the market. The medium habitat is best for the same types of reptiles, but different species like the Phelsuma Madagascariensis or Litoria Caerulea. The only thing the glass reptile starter kits do not come with is a heating element and light bulb. While the light fitting is included you will have to purchase the right bulb. The reason the bulb is not included is that different reptiles require different lights. A desert reptile does need a basking style light, but snakes can require a different wattage than say a gecko based on their physiology.

The reptile care sheet included in the start kit will help you discover what bulb you require. The starter kit can work well for juvenile housing if you are just getting started with a smaller reptile. However, some juveniles will require a larger housing as they reach adulthood. The glass vivarium reptile starter kits will range between £60 and £160 for cost. This is less than you would find the entire package by looking for each piece separately.
